About Joe Leighton

Joe originally hails from Toronto Canada, where he started off as a gymnasts and springboard diver. Having studied at Seneca College of Applied Arts
image& Technology in Toronto Ontario, he achieved his National Coaching Certification in both the Technical & Theory aspects of gymnastics. Throughout his summers he worked at Canadian Adventure Camp and at Canada’s Wonderland as an acrobatic stunt performer.

Joe moved to Singapore in 1984 where he worked with children and youth promoting  gymnastics and fitness for kids island wide. He was one of the pioneers in the sport industry for children’s gymnastics and fitness based activities.

He has been a Head coach, Manager, Co-founder and Director of a few centers in Singapore, where his programs have achieved high praise and were well received by thousands of participants and children over the years.

Joe’s gymnastic & fitness activities were adopted into many local and International schools, Community Centers and Country Clubs.

During his 30 years in Singapore Joe has been actively promoting gymnastics and fitness for all, contributing, to various magazines, newspaper articles, radio shows and T.V program, sports seminars, health and fitness conventions.

He was involved in many projects over the years for the Singapore Sports Council (Kids@Play), National Day Celebrations, Community Chest, Nickalodeon (WorldPlay Day) ChinGay Parade, National Schools gymnastic Championships, Pesta Sukan gymnastic Championships and much more. Joe has had many National gymnasts representing Singapore during Asian Schools, Sea Games and various overseas and local competitions.

Joe was the Director & Head of Elementary P.E and Gross Motor Development at The Canadian Schools (Singapore) for 7 years. He has been a volunteer for Breast Cancer Foundation, Run For Hope, Active Living, Singapore Gymnastics Association, National School Championships, Healthy Lifesyle Campaign and the Singapore Sports Council for various activities which were conducted.

* National School Championships Singapore as judge, coach since 1984

* Co- author of ‘ GymFlash’ An Educational Guide for Teachers, Coaches and Parents.

* WAG Womens National Gymnatic Team Manager Australia training in preparation for the Sea Games 2005

* Active volunteer for Cancer Awareness during the ‘Run For Hope,’Terry Fox Run, Community Chest Singapore
